Income requirements for renting in the Netherlands

There’s no legal income requirement for renting in the Dutch free sector or mid-rent segment. Landlords set their own, usually a gross monthly income of 3 to 4 times the basic rent. For €1,200 a month, that’s €3,600 to €4,800 gross. New to the Netherlands or just short? Your employment contract, savings or a guarantor can help.

Finding a rental home in the Netherlands

Know your budget and the income landlords expect, have your documents ready, and respond to new listings fast. If you're new to the Netherlands, register with your municipality as soon as you have an address, so you get your BSN. Never pay before you've seen the home and signed a contract.
